Korean GSE Team Here April 23-May 19
District 5970 will host a Group Study Exchange team from Korea April
23-May 19. Team members are from District 3710 in southwestern South
Korea. Their visit will include overnight stays in Cedar Falls,
Cedar Rapids, Waverly, Dubuque, Decorah, Fort Dodge, Mason City
and Algona.

Mr. Oh, 56, is married to Young-Sun Cho, and has three
married children, a daughter, age 30, and two sons, ages 29 and 27.
He is owner and president of Woo-Rim Transportation Ltd., a taxi company,
and president of Se-Young Inc., a construction firm. A 16-year member
of the Gwangju, Songjung Rotary Club, he was club president in 2001-02
and assistant to the district governor in 2003-04. In Rotary District
3710, he has served as committee chair for Vocational, Rotoract, and
RYLA Services and has been an instructor for various service committees
at annual district conferences. He enjoys walking and playing golf
and baduk, a traditional Chinese board game. He is interested in visiting
museums and cultural sites during his visit. He also hopes to visit
one or more U.S. taxi companies. |

Ms. Kim, 28, is sponsored by the Gwangju East Rotary Club. She is
a native of Boseong, Jeollanam Province, an area known for scenic
tea fields and Korea's largest producer of green tea. She earned a
B.A. degree in administration from Honam University in Gwangju. She
works as a coordinator at the Gwangju International Center (GIC),
a public/private resource center that provides foreign residents with
Korean language classes, cultural tours, a monthly English-language
magazine (Gwangju News), and activities designed to promote international
exchange between foreign residents and local citizens. Ms. Kim is
a language instructor at GIC and assists with publication of the magazine.
She hopes to visit Iowa tourist attractions, such as the Bridges of
Madison County, the Mississippi River, and cultural heritage sites.
She enjoys walking, listening to music, and going to art galleries
and museums. She would like to visit organizations that provide services
to international residents and promote cultural exchange. She is particularly
interested in the Iowa Resource for International Services (IRIS)
in Ames. (Hosts should note that because of allergies, she requests
a humidifier in her room.) |

Mrs. Son, 38, is sponsored by the Mokpo-Samhak Rotary
Club. She and her husband, Yongbeom, have been married for 10 years
and have a son, Chungyoo, 8, and a daughter, Hooya, 5. The family
resides in Mokpo, about four hours from Seoul, where she has been
a public officer in the Mokpo Municipal Office since 1991. Her work
includes managing low-income medical programs for the Social Welfare
Department, producing tourist publications for the Tourism Promotion
Department, and preparing the city's year-end financial statements
for the Accounting Department. She won official commendation from
the Ministry of Health and Welfare for her selfless work helping low-income
people. She is a graduate of Mokpo National University with a B.S.
degree in economics. She enjoys reading, going to movies, walking,
and hiking with her children. She belongs to a marathon club and ran
in two 10k races. She also enjoys traveling throughout Korea with
her family. She hopes to visit local government offices to compare
their management of accounting and tourism functions with the Korean
system. She is a Buddhist and a non-smoker. |

Mrs. Jeong, 27, is sponsored by the Gwangju East Rotary
Club. She is married to Jeagyun Jeong, a doctor at Seongshim Hospital
in Yeosu, near Gwangju. She is graduate of Chosun University in Gwangju,
where she earned a Bachelor of Education degree in English and a Master
of Arts degree from the Graduate School of Education. She teaches
eighth-grade English language courses at Gwangdeok Middle School,
a private school in Gwangju. She enjoys movies, reading, listening
to music, and swimming and would like to travel during her visit.
She hopes to visit a school to observe American school life and teaching
styles. |

Mr. Chung, 36, is sponsored by the Gwangju Rotary Club.
He and his wife, Young-A Yang, have been married for eight years and
have a daughter, 7. They live in Gwangju, where he earned a B.S. degree
in medicine and an M.S. degree in medical science
at Chosun University. After complting a 26-month clinical fellowship
in cardiology at Seoul National University Hospital, he is serving
as a professor of cardiology for the Department of Internal Medicine
at Chosun University Hospital, specializing in arrhythmia cardiology
for undergraduates. He a member of the Board of Medicine, Board of
Internal Medicine, and Board of Cardiology. Previously, he served
three years as a military medical officer, achieving the rank of Captain.
He enjoys walking and listening to music and has passions for computer
science, ancient civilizations, and archaeology. During his stay in
Iowa he hopes to visit museums and sites related to Native American
and early American cultures. He would like to visit the University
of Iowa Heart-Care Unit's Electrophysiology Laboratory and meet with
Brian Olshansky, M.D., professor and director of cardiac electrophysiology.
