| Monday is World Rotary Day |
February 19, 2009 - Monday is always Rotary day in Clarion, but it will take on new significance next week because Monday, February 23 is World Rotary Day. Theme for this year is "Make Dreams Real". Clarion Rotary members are asked to wear their Rotary shirts in observance of the special day.
The local club does projects throughout the year to raise money to help make dreams real for others. The club has several projects planned for 2009 including the quad supper which supports scholarships to Clarion-Goldfield students. Funds raised from the annual Texas Hold'em tournament have been donated to the Clarion Library Project and the Krysilis expansion. The Festival in the Park buffalo burger booth provides funds for other local projects.
A local betterment project includes twice yearly pick up of two miles of road ditches west of Clarion. Members have also participated in down town clean up each spring and donated money to update the Clarion signs and landscaping on the east and west edge of town.
For an international project, the layette project asks members to donate items for twenty special layette kits which are sent mothers of newborns in Chinandega, Nicaragua. Clarion Rotary donates funds to Project Amigo each year. The money is used to provide schooling for a student in Mexico. This year the club is also helping sponsor Allison Cramer as a Rotary Exchange student to Slovakia.
Rotary is an international service organization. Anyone interested in membership in the Clarion club should contact membership chairman Bob Brinton or club president Carol Meyer.
