| Italy GSE Summary-Ruth Buck |

Â
The GSE 2009 Team has returned from District 2030 in Northwestern Italy with wonderful experiences to share. We visited 21 Rotary Clubs in 28 days. Not always for a formal meeting but always for a fun exchange of conversation and Rotary values.Â
Â
District 2030 has 84 clubs so we just scratched the surface. The tour took us from the Italian Alps in Valle’e D’Aosta to the coastal towns of Genoa, Cinque Terre and Porto Fino. We visited elementary schools, universities, music academies, vineyards, research facilities, museums, churches, factories of all types, a brewery and a mine. Sites like Roman ruins, castles, gardens were almost an everyday occurrence.Â
We had a home stay at a Villa with a pool and spent our last four nights at a convent. Now for the food. We estimated we spent 6 hours a day eating. Breakfast was the usual continental breakfast followed by a two to three course lunch with wine and then a more formal dinner at night with three or more courses.Â
Â
We gave our long presentation several times and our short presentation more often. We spent time with Stefano Piola, the incoming team leader, in his home and village and with his Rotary Club. Carolina Rosa De Negri joined us and we saw Marco Masselli at the District Conference and when we visited his town of Pinerolo. They all send greetings to their Iowa friends in Rotary. Out team members would be happy to do a presentation to your Rotary Club. Contact me and I will give you the contact information for the closest team member.Â
Â
Thank you again for this once in a lifetime Rotary experience. Ruth Buck, Waterloo Crossroads Rotary Club.Â
